Public policy/Politiques publiques: “Regulatory governance”

One of the most widely made claims over the past three decades has been that we are living in the age of regulatory governance. With this workshop we wish to examine the causes, consequences and implications of regulatory reforms, with a special focus on the Swiss case. We welcome case studies and comparative research about "classic" topics, such as diffusion of regulatory agencies, regulatory performance, compliance and enforcement, regulatory competition, regulatory capitalism, public-private partnerships, policy change and accountability regimes, but also innovative research about participatory governance and regulation, the impact of regulatory performance on public opinion and electoral politics, normative analyses of regulation as a mode of governance, and the evaluation of the unintended, unexpected, and less desirable consequences of regulation.

Representation and Political Behavior/Politisches Verhalten/ Comportement politique

Besides having an open call, the working group also welcomes proposals for panels comprised of three to four papers from different universities. We strongly invite PhD students to submit such a panel proposal. It will be reviewed by the working group and, if more coherent panels can be formed, panels will be reorganized.

Federalism and territorial politics: “Multilevel party organisations: examining the role of parties in federal and decentralised political systems”

Papers can cover both an internal or external perspective on party organization; relate to the (potential) multilevel character of parties; discuss properties of party branches as either dependent or independent variables; or address the meaning political actors bring to parties in political systems beyond their representative role. Proposals/papers can be written in English, Italian, French or German. English applies for discussion and if possible for presentation of the paper.
